Reflective Practice Module Pilot:
January - May 2009
Developing Reflective Practice in Skills for Life Teaching is a
new suite of online materials that are designed for teacher
educators and trainee teachers, to develop both reflective practice
and subject methodology. Developed for the Skills for Life
Improvement Programme by University of Wolverhampton, the materials
guide teacher educators by analysing a series of scenarios in the
teaching of literacy, language and numeracy.
The critical incidents, derived from students’ experiences,
follow issues to do with behaviour, classroom management and
methodological issues. The main focus though is on
developing teachers as
reflective practitioners. Acting as a peer
observer, the user advises each of the three teachers on ways to
reflect using Schon’s analysis and Brookfield’s lenses for
reflective action.
The narrative is presented in a series of videos and comic
strips that allow the observer to see what the learners are really
thinking. Further details of how the
on-line module works is provided in this
article.
The on-line reflective practice module
is now ready to pilot.
We are now offering the opportunity for teacher educators and
